Access Team Research Intern at the World Resources Institute


We are looking for a highly motivated and independent person to play a significant role in research and communication for the Access Initiative (http://www.accessinitiative.org), a global network that promotes access to information, participation, and justice in environmental decision-making. The ideal candidate will have interest and experience in researching information regarding access to information, public participation and access to justice (“access”) laws and other related data.


Number of open positions: 2


Responsibilities:
Interns will work on several of the following activities, to be allocated based on interest, skills, and team priorities:


• Work on the database of TAI cases on access to information, public participation and access to justice and compile other online resources to assist in advocacy and litigation (administrative and before the courts) on these issues.
• Review all the 50 TAI countries and document access improvements in each of them based on guidelines/definitions/criteria developed by the team.
• Relate access improvements in TAI countries to TAI assessments or TAI partners actions or both
• Identify and write up TAI success stories


Qualifications:
Applicants pursuing a Master’s degree in Political Science or Law or a JD are eligible to apply. Successful applicants will have a demonstrated interest in international/comparative environmental issues, developing countries, and an understanding of the role that legal and political systems play in governing environment and natural resources.

• Excellent writing and editing skills.
• Experience in interpreting data.
• Strong quantitative abilities and experience in interpreting data.
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel data tools.
• Ability to manipulate large data sets.
• Knowledge of international geography and environmental issues.
