Women’s Earth Alliance (WEA) creates innovative solutions to issues of water, food, land and climate through collaborative initiatives that train, connect, and empower emerging women leaders. The WEA Advocacy Network links top pro bono advocacy professionals – lawyers, policy experts, businesspeople – with a network of visionary Indigenous women leading grassroots environmental campaigns in North America, for collaboration towards environmental justice and sustainable economic development.
The North America Program invites applications for our new Advocacy Fellowship. The Fellow will work with the North America Program Director to manage and develop all aspects of the Advocacy Network.
Depending on Fellow availability, this position may begin full-time immediately or in Fall 2011. Position may also be available on an interim/ consultancy basis.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the rapid response Advocacy Network.
• Develop new relationships with legal, policy, and business pro bono advocates, and indigenous women environmental leaders, and maintain existing relationships.
• Conduct due diligence to provide advocates with case review at project outset.
• Manage the Advocacy Network case-tracking software.
• Facilitate advocate-client communications throughout project life-cycle.
• Co-manage the November 2011 Advocacy Training – including recruitment, logistics, and substantive research.
• Co-manage WEA Working Groups – communications, recruitment, strategic planning, and substantive research.
• Co-manage Power Lines campaign and Spring 2012 Advocacy Delegation, including outreach, logistics, and substantive research.
• Prepare the monthly Advocate Briefing, the newsletter providing information about new project opportunities, as well as updates from the field and WEA activities.
• Track news and updates from the indigenous environmental justice movement’s front lines, to identify potential projects and project partners.
• Develop CLE program associated with Advocacy Network, including in-person and multimedia presentations, to engage potential new advocates.
• Participate in fundraising activities for the program.

Qualifications:
• J.D. degree, M.A. in public policy, or other advocacy-related advanced degree
• At least three years’ experience working with multi-stakeholder movements for environmental and/ or social justice
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Conscientious, detail-oriented, able to manage multiple projects and team members
• Flexible, creative, self-starting and able to thrive in a dynamic, growing organization
• Presence in Berkeley, CA and willingness to travel
