Assistant Director of the Dinu Patriciu Eurasia Center of the Atlantic Council


The Atlantic Council seeks a talented organizer and communicator to assist in executing a wide range of policy projects focused on Eurasia, the region that extends from East-Central Europe to the Far East. Areas of emphasis include politics, economics, and energy within the region and with it. The assistant director plays a central role in the development and implementation of Eurasia Center activities including: policy roundtables, high-level strategy sessions, public events, conferences, issue briefs, other publications, outreach, and task forces. A major activity of the Center is the Atlantic Council’s annual Black Sea Energy and Economic Forum, which will take place this November in Istanbul. The assistant director also plays a key role in creating and executing budgets and procedures.
The successful candidate for this position will have a strong ability to organize and communicate, and a high degree of attention to detail. Demonstrated expertise in Eurasia through course work and/or experience is strongly preferred. The position also requires effective writing and editing skills, management and administrative capability, and an entrepreneurial spirit.
Job Responsibilities
• Program development: Work with the Director and senior Council leadership to plan activities, identify opportunities, and develop programs that will advance the Center’s goals and objectives. Undertake all aspects of project implementation, including the preparation of budgets and the compilation of reporting requirements. Record metrics and track impact.
• Program administration: Work to ensure that events are successfully organized and well-attended, with primary responsibility for logistics, outreach, and budget. Manage, update, and grow program contacts, lists, and databases. Coordinate the commission, completion, editing, and dissemination of Center publications.
• Resource management: Manage Center funding and budgeting in coordination with the Director and the Council’s Chief Financial Officer, as well as overall Center administration. Prepare invoices and other financial forms, track expenses, and coordinate payments for Center personnel.
• Human resources: Recruit, train, mentor, and supervise Center interns.
• Publications: Write and edit materials for publication, including reports, event summaries, promotional materials, and website content.
• Other: Support the Center Director and Council leadership in other ways, as directed, toward ensuring the success of the Center’s and Council’s missions.
Qualifications
• Master’s degree international relations and/or Eurasian affairs preferred, Bachelor’s degree required; work experience strongly preferred.
• Experience and expertise on the Eurasian region and on transatlantic issues.
Strong program management experience; excellent writing, editing, organizational, budgetary, and administrative skills; experience in grant writing, event planning, and contact/database management highly desirable.
• Strong interpersonal skills; must be able to manage interns and work well with colleagues, senior Council staff, and external officials and partners.
• Russian, Turkish, or another Eurasian language desirable.
