Global Economy and Human Rights Internship at the International Network for Economic, Social and Cultural Rights


ESCR-Net is now seeking a Global Economy and Human Rights interns to assist in the area of Corporate Accountability.
ESCR-Net is the largest network of groups and individuals from around the world working to secure economic and social justice through human rights. ESCR-Net seeks to strengthen the field of all human rights, with a special focus on economic, social and cultural rights, and further develop the tools for achieving their promotion, protection and fulfillment. Through ESCR-Net, groups and individuals can exchange information, develop a collective voice, amplify their actions, develop new tools and strategies. By facilitating joint actions, enhancing communications and building solidarity across regions, the network seeks to build a global movement to make human rights and social justice a reality for all.
Hours and Location: Internships with ESCR-Net generally require a minimum of two to three days per week (15-20 hours per week), though we may accept a full-time internship in special cases. Although we are eager to negotiate a relatively consistent schedule, the days and hours of work are flexible. The intern will be based at the office of ESCR-Net’s Secretariat (211 East 43rd Street, #906, New York City). Please note that this is an unpaid internship.
CORPORATE ACCOUNTABILITY
ESCR-Net is now looking for an intern to assist its worldwide Corporate Accountability Working Group in its efforts to advocate for a common, international set of standards articulating the human rights responsibilities of business, document ongoing human rights violations involving companies, strengthen the voice of grassroots groups challenging abuses of human rights by corporations, and provide resources for mutual-learning.
Responsibilities: 
Under the supervision of the ESCR-Net Secretariat, the intern will have the following responsibilities: • Assist in researching cases involving alleged violations of human rights involving companies, as well as venues attempted to access justice • Help develop other new resources, tools and communication platforms in response to needs identified by Network members • Assist in developing a collective voice for advocacy on corporate accountability • Assist in fundraising research
Qualifications: Required • Completed, or in pursuit of a graduate degree in a related field, especially human rights law and protection system • Consistent attention to detail • Capacity to read, write and communicate in English • Strong writing and communication skills, including an ability to clearly explain technical issues in order to create material useful for grassroots groups and human rights organizations • Knowledge of human rights, particularly economic, social and cultural rights • Experience in conducting research • Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to network and liaise with diverse groups and individuals • Capacity to work independently Highly Desirable • Capacity to read, write and communicate in Spanish, or other languages such as French, Portuguese, and Arabic. • Experience working with diverse grassroots groups and NGOs • Strong interest and knowledge of business and human rights issues, including familiarity with ongoing developments in the United Nations on the subject. • Familiarity with interactive web-based or other technologies for use in social justice advocacy, such as wikis, video and audio podcasts, social networking sites, etc. • Experience developing websites
