Jeffrey Dodge, Assistant Dean for Global Initiatives & Multicultural Affairs, was recently selected to represent Hofstra Law School at the upcoming Education Mission to Indonesia and Vietnam from April 3 to April 8, 2011. The mission is organized by the U.S. Department of Commerce, International Trade Administration, division of U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service.
Led by a senior Department of Commerce official, the mission — with stops in Jakarta, Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi — is part of a federal government initiative to increase education connections between the United States and foreign countries. As part of this delegation, Dean Dodge will meet with ambassadors, government officials and academic administrators in each city. He also will participate in education sector briefings, educational fairs for students, matchmaking sessions with potential recruitment partners and networking sessions with local schools. Fewer than 70 academic institutions have been selected by the Department of Commerce to participate in this mission.
The short term goals of the education trade mission to Vietnam and Indonesia are to: introduce accredited U.S. schools to potential students in each market; introduce these U.S. schools to potential partners and other industry representatives; and inform mission members of local cultural, political and economic factors in Indonesia and Vietnam that will affect both student recruitment strategies, as well as the opportunities and challenges related to establishing partnerships.
