Guatemalan Child Return and Reintegration Project (GCRRP) Summer Intern at KIND

Background:
Kids In Need of Defense (KIND) is an innovative new partnership among the Microsoft Corporation, Angelina Jolie and other interested philanthropists, law firms and corporate contributors. KIND is dedicated to providing both pro bono representation and positive systemic changes in both law and policy to protect unaccompanied immigrant and refugee children. In the fall of 2010, KIND launched the Guatemalan Child Return and Reintegration Project (GCRRP), which helps ensure that Guatemalan children who come to the United States alone and must return are sent back to a safe place where they can access vital services. KIND has partnered with Global Fund for Children and five NGOs in Guatemala to provide comprehensive services to repatriating children. 

Responsibilities:
KIND seeks a part-time volunteer (16-20 hours a week) to assist the Guatemalan Child Return & Reintegration Project (GCRRP). The volunteer would work primarily with the Project Social Worker and the Project Director to complete the following tasks:
•Translate GCRRP project materials (Spanish/English)
•Conduct research on international policies, protections and programs for repatriation
•Research Guatemalan and Central American programs working with child migrants
•Assist in the development of project materials
•Assist with data collection and analysis
•Perform administrative tasks as needed

Qualifications:
•Demonstrated knowledge of immigration issues
•Must have excellent writing and research skills
•Must be professional with excellent interpersonal skills
•Must be flexible and able to multi-task
•Candidate must be bilingual (Spanish)
