The Hunger Project (THP) is a global, strategic organization committed to the sustainable end of world hunger. In Africa, South Asia and Latin America, THP empowers women and men to end their own hunger.
The research and advocacy intern will support our global team in policy advocacy efforts related to its bottom-up, gender-focused approach to development. Through a broad range of activities the intern will support THP’s global staff in the design, implementation and evaluation of a coordinated advocacy strategy to strengthen country-led strategies for development.
This is an unpaid position although course credit may be available.
Responsibilities:
- Support THP global staff as they engage in the formulation and implementation of country-led strategies for achieving the Millennium Development Goals.
- Research, analyze and compile data related to developments related to policy processes under way (with specific focus on food security, gender equality, global health and nutrition).
- Attend and report on meetings with our civil society partners based in New York and Washington, DC.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support the Strategy and Advocacy team.
Qualifications:
We request interns to be available to work a minimum of 15 hours per week. All applicants should be either fourth-year undergraduate students or masters candidates in international policy, political science or related field.

- An understanding of, and experience with, issues of international development with work experience in an NGO or foundation focused on international development preferred.
- Experience working in a fast-paced, time-sensitive work environment that requires strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work both independently and in collaboration with THP global staff and external organizations.
- Excellent research, analytical, and writing skills with attention to detail.
- Strong commitment to gender-focused, people-centered development.
- English fluency required, additional language proficiency desirable
