Program Officer at the Council for a Community of Democracies


The Council for a Community of Democracies (CCD) seeks a Program Officer to provide administrative and program support for its activities promoting multilateral support for democracy, human rights, and rule of law. CCD works with civil society leaders from all over the world to identify threats to democracy and opportunities for democratic consolidation and encourage action by governments of the Community of Democracies. Primary activities of the Program Officer may include planning and logistical support for a series of international roundtable meetings of civil society; identifying relevant current events items and working with staff to maintain the news section of the CCD website; drafting press releases and other correspondence on issues of democracy and human rights; working with partners in the NGO community, US Department of State, and foreign embassies to coordinate meetings and other activities; assisting in the preparation of grant proposals to private and government funding sources; hiring and managing interns; the organization of quarterly board meetings; the management of content for the CCD and Diplomat’s Handbook websites and additional administrative support as needed.
  • Undergraduate degree in a related field (International Relations, Comparative Politics, etc.) required; relevant work/internship experience or a graduate degree preferred.
  • Website maintenance experience desired, preferably in Dreamweaver.
  • Prior experience in conference planning desired.
  • Prior experience with democracy and human rights activities preferred.
  • Ability to work comfortably with partners from a variety of countries and backgrounds.
  • Strong interpersonal and writing skills.
