The Global Centre for the Responsibility to Protect (GCR2P) is seeking a Research and Administration intern beginning early January 2011. Founded in February 2008 by five leading international non-governmental organizations, GCR2P acts as a catalyst to promote and apply the norm of the “responsibility to protect” populations from genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing, and crimes against humanity. Through its programs, events and publications, the Centre is a resource and a forum for governments, international institutions and non-governmental organizations on prevention and early action to halt mass atrocities.
The internship can be full-time or part-time (minimum of 20 hours per week) and must be for a period of at least 3-4 months. The internship is unpaid, although a small stipend may be available.
Responsibilities
• Assist with administrative tasks and provide support in organizing and planning meetings and events.
• Assist with outreach and dissemination of GCR2P research and publications including to the media.
• Assist in updating content and uploading document on to the GCR2P web site
• Conduct research and compile information on R2P-related news and events including statements and positions of governments, regional institutions and other basic policy research.

Qualifications
• Enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate-level university program or possess an undergraduate or graduate degree in a field international relations, international law, or political science.
• Computer literate with excellent written and oral communication, research and writing skills.
• Familiarity with the UN system is preferred
• Fluent in English; proficiency in French or Spanish also desirable
• Experience in web site design and management is desirable.
• Enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate-level university program or possess an undergraduate or graduate degree in a field international relations, international law, or political science.
