The Hunger Project is seeking a bilingual (French/English) Program Intern to support the work of the Africa Department in THP’s New York-based Global Office.
The Program Intern will support the Africa Department in its programmatic work and with daily administrative tasks. On a regular basis, the intern will perform research assignments, translate and/or edit internal documents, and provide administrative support such as reserving international travel, securing visas and drafting emails. On a quarterly basis, the intern will also assist in the department’s assessment of Monitoring & Evaluation indicators, as well as supporting the Microfinance Program audits. Other responsibilities may be assigned as deemed appropriate.
Interns are expected to work approximately 15 hours per week, with flexibility for student schedules. Internships will last 3 to 6 months.
The Intern must:
• Speak and write fluently in French;
• Have excellent organizational, time management and multi-tasking abilities;
• Demonstrate exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, and flexibility in working with a diverse group of colleagues;
• Have a demonstrated interest in development issues, particularly poverty, hunger, microfinance and gender;
• Be proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite—particularly Excel and Word;
• Exhibit exceptional research and writing skills.
Other desired qualities:
• Graduate studies in a relevant field, such as international affairs, international development, economic development, or another related subject area;
• Demonstrated interest in Africa, either through travel, employment or studies;
• Ability to speak Portuguese is preferred but not required.
