Community Law and Policy Interns at the Center for Collaborative Change


The Center for Collaborative Change is a community-based nonprofit that brokers collaborative, sustainable solutions to make Newark thrive. Our mission is to engage community and civic leadership in policy and program development in order to accelerate Newark’s revitalization while ensuring that the process includes and responds to the priorities of its community members. We are seeking energetic, dedicated individuals with inter-disciplinary worldviews and a passion for collaboration to join our team as Summer 2011 Community Law & Policy Interns.
Community Law & Policy Interns will work on researching and developing policy and program responses to Newark’s most pressing challenges in one or more of the following areas:
Housing/Economic Development
Health & Fitness
Education
Community-Police Relations
Community Engagement
Clean & Green/Urban Agriculture
Policy & Systems Change
Responsibilities:
Conduct best practices research and analysis in order to identify national proven and promising policies and programs. 
Collaborate with local government officials, nonprofit organizations, community groups and others to design and implement promising programs and initiatives.
Assist in developing and executing programs, curriculum, and/or materials.
Conduct legal and policy research and analysis within one or more of the issue areas listed above.
Qualifications:
Current graduate student in law, public policy, public health, social work, public administration or related field required.
Demonstrated interest in social justice and experience in at least one of the above-mentioned issue areas.
Newark interest or experience: familiarity with community needs, resources, history, culture and values preferred.
Excellent analytic, verbal and writing skills.
Strong interpersonal skills: must thrive in a collaborative work environment and enjoy teamwork. A sense of humor is a must!
Willingness to be flexible about office space arrangements: we are a small but growing nonprofit with limited space and successful candidates must be prepared to do some portion of their work off-site. Successful candidates will possess the requisite discipline, organization, and self-motivation to work independently.
