Legal Intern at Fundacion Juventas

The Legal Intern will work forty hours a week for 4 - 6 months, specifically focusing on research and publication work with the recently-established Observatorio de Derecho Internacional Humanitario, a collaborative project between Fundación Juventas, the Facultad de Derecho of the Universidad Pedagógica y Tecnológica de Colombia (UPTC), and researchers at the University of Geneva (Switzerland).
The Legal Intern will work directly with RedHumana, an undergraduate research group in the UPTC’s Facultad de Derecho, with which they will conduct jurisprudential analyses of 1) International Humanitarian Law & Environmental Law, 2) Implementation of the International Criminal Court in Colombia, and 3) the application of International Humanitarian Law in Colombian tribunals.
Legal Interns will focus on researching, publishing, and translating materials from Spanish to their primary language for the Observatory’s international legal database.
The Legal Intern is encouraged to publish works that they have researched and developed previous to their internship, given that they are of a topic of interest to the Observatorio.
The Legal Intern’s work will mainly take place at the Centro de Capacitación Legal and the UPTC’s Facultad de Derecho and research facilities. At the same time, the Legal Intern may be required to travel around the city and the department of Boyacá for meetings, conferences, and research.
The Intern will be encouraged, but not required, to become involved in Fundación Juventas’ social activities, to the extent that they see fit.
The Intern will have the option of complementing their work at Juventas with coursework at local universities, in fields related to the NGO’s mission.
Fundación Juventas will provide the intern with complementary volunteer housing and on-site orientation and guidance.
