Santa Clara Law's Center for Global Law & Policy is co-hosting an intensive, hands-on workshop on international humanitarian law with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The Workshop is free to law students and will be held January 3 - 6, 2012, at Santa Clara University School of Law. The Workshop features faculty drawn from the ICRC, the U.S. armed services' JAG Corps, and law professors from all over the country specializing in humanitarian law. The Workshop involves lectures as well as hands on exercises on the various topics, including target selection, protected persons, internment/detention rules, the interface with human rights law and terrorism, and war crimes prosecutions. The Workshop culminates in a final drafting/negotiation exercise that consolidates the prior material in a real-world context. Participants who complete the program will receive a certificate from the ICRC.
