Reports to: Project Director, South East Asia
Role: The successful candidate will research and produce reports on conflict-related security, political, governance, human rights and social issues in Thailand. He/she will carry out extensive field research and advocacy for Crisis Group. The successful candidate will work closely with other members of the South East Asia team and develop recommendations for how the Thai government and the international community should address the various conflicts in and around Thailand.
Responsibilities:
- Conducts extensive field research and provides analysis on conflict and the related security, social, legal, governance and political issues in and around Thailand;
- Proposes policy initiatives for governmental, intergovernmental, political, and nongovernmental stakeholders to address and resolve sources of conflict;
- Prepares detailed reports and briefing papers setting out relevant research findings and policy recommendations.
Requirements:
- Extensive knowledge of politics and society in Thailand;
- Experience in political analysis and conflict prevention;
- Five plus years professional experience in government, academia, international organisations, NGOs or journalism;
- Excellent writing, editing and analytical skills and ability to formulate well-targeted policy recommendations;
- Fluency in English required, fluency in Thai is an advantage;
- Masters degree in international relations, political science, journalism, law, sociology or equivalent through experience;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including good public presentation skills, and a very strong capacity for effective teamwork;
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced and often demanding environment.
