International Bridges to Justice Legal and Communications Officer

International Bridges to Justice (IBJ) supports the continued development of China's criminal justice system and promotes increased awareness of the rights of the accused. Working in partnernship with government and civil society institutions, IBJ provides practical training, resources, and other technical assistance to criminal defense lawyers and other criminal justice actors. IBJ's programming focuses specifically on strengthening the capacity of China's rapidly expanding indigent criminal defense system as well as the quality of the criminal defense bar. IBJ is a non-profit, non-governmental organization with its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.
IBJ is currently seeking a native English speaking lawyer for the position of Legal and Communications Officer, to be based in IBJ’s office in Beijing. The officer will directly report to the China Program Director.
Primary Responsibilities: Conduct thorough program analyses, reviewing project outputs against organizational goals and international criminal justice standards Facilitate impact studies of past and ongoing development projects Draft reports and other communications, such as website content, promotional materials, and grant applications Help implement projects, by assisting with trainings, roundtable events, and the production of legal educational materials Assist in the management of interns and pro bono staff Other tasks as necessary

Qualifications: Qualified lawyer 3 to 5 years of progressive experience and responsibility in the practice of law and/or program implementation Experience in the practice of criminal defense Native English speaker with some level of Mandarin Chines Strong commitment to IBJ’s mission Flexibility and willingness to work weekends/occasional long hours Superb writing skills Attention to detail Willingness to travel, especially to developing regions Self-starter with excellent judgment and ability to think strategically Positive attitude and a team player Knowledge of budgeting and monitoring and evaluation systems preferred

This is a long-term, full-time position. We would prefer someone who can stay in this position for 2+ years. Candidates with independent means of securing a visa are preferred.
