Darmasiswa Scholarship Program (Indonesian Government Sponsored)

DARMASISWA is a scholarship program offered to all foreign students from countries which have diplomatic relationship with Indonesia to study Bahasa Indonesia, arts, music and crafts. Participants can choose one of 45 different universities located in different cities in Indonesia. This program is organized by the Ministry of National Education (MoNE) in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA).

The DARMASISWA program was started in 1974 as part of ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nations) initiative, admitting only students from ASEAN. However, in 1976 this program was extended to include students from other countries such as Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hungary, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Sweden, and USA. In early 90's, this program was extended further to include all countries which have diplomatic relationship with Indonesia. Until to date, the number of countries participating in this program is more than 75 countries.

The main purpose of the DARMASISWA program is to promote and increase the interest in the language and culture of Indonesia among the youth of other countries. It has also been designed to provide stronger cultural links and understanding among participating countries.

Chinese Government Scholarship Program


Application of China's government scholarship program for the upcoming 2012-2013 academic year has started.
Sponsored by China's Ministry of Education (MOE), the Government Scholarship Program provides full and partial scholarships to international students and scholars to study in China. Recipients will be studying or doing research in Chinese universities or research institutes in a variety of subjects, including medicine, agriculture, law, management, history, economics, etc.
Undergraduates, Master's and Doctoral candidates as well as scholars are all eligible. US applicants can send application forms to the Education Office of Chinese Embassy in Washington, DC, or Chinese Consulates General in other US cities.
The China Scholarship Council (CSC) under the MOE is responsible for recruiting candidates for the program. Those who are interested in applying can refer to www.csc.edu.cn/laihua to check application procedures. The deadline is April 30.
The program is initiated by MOE in accordance with educational exchange agreements and understanding between Chinese government, foreign governments and international organizations such as UNESCO, ASEAN and EU.

The doctoral programme Law in a Changing World announces
8 DOCTORAL STUDENT POSITIONS
for the period 1 September 2012–31 August 2016.

Law in a Changing World (LCW) includes all the sub-disciplines of law. Each doctoral student will be acquainted with the Europeanization and internationalization of law, but the research conducted does not have to connect to these themes. The student must register in one of the participating Finnish universities to carry out the doctoral studies.

The appointed candidates will focus on completing a doctoral thesis in the field of legal studies. They will participate in the training and other activities organized by the LCW programme. The tasks of doctoral students will include a limited amount teaching and administrative work. Also affiliated self-funded researchers may be accepted to participate in the LCW programme.

A suitable master´s degree in law or a neighboring discipline is required. The student must show the ability and motivation for postgraduate studies and for completing the doctoral degree according to the research plan.

The application must include the following information and appendices:
-           a cover letter (max 2 pages), which sheds light on the applicant’s motivation to conduct doctoral research and to complete a doctoral degree; the sub-discipline of the research should be indicated (e.g. public law, IP law, criminal law)
-           a research proposal for a doctoral thesis (max 6 pages)
-           an individual study plan for the degree built on participation in the LCW programme (max 4 pages)
-           a Curriculum vitae and list of possible publications (or an academic portfolio including these documents)
-           copies of degree certificates
-           possible written assessments concerning Master´s dissertations
-           a possible statement from the proposed supervisor and other possible references (eventual supervisor must be contacted beforehand)
-           relevant documents indicating proficiency and skills in English (TOEFL test or equivalent)
-           information on possible previous funding

Salaries will be based on levels 1–4 of the job requirement level chart for teaching and research staff in the salary scales of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointees will be paid a salary component based on personal work performance. The salary will be set at approximately 1.800–2.800 euros per month.

The applications shall be addressed to the LCW doctoral programme and sent in 4 copies with appendices to: Registry and Records Management, Yliopistonkatu 4 (P.O. Box 33), 00014 University of Helsinki, Finland. The applications may be written in Finnish, English or Swedish. The closing date for applications is Wednesday, 15 February 2012, 3.45pm (GMT +2), when all the documents must be received by the University’s Registry.

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed. Final decisions will be made in April. Unsuccessful applicants may be admitted as affiliated researchers to the LCW programme. Affiliated researchers follow the same programme but will not be funded through a work contract.

Call for Applications: Albert Einstein Fellowship

The Einstein Forum and the Daimler and Benz Foundation are offering a fellowship for outstanding young thinkers who wish to pursue a project in a different field from that of their previous research. The purpose of the fellowship is to support those who, in addition to producing extraordinary work in their area of specialization, are also open to other, interdisciplinary approaches – following the example set by Albert Einstein.

The fellowship includes living accommodations for five to six months in the gardener`s cottage of Einstein`s own summerhouse in Caputh, Brandenburg, only a short distance away from the universities and academic institutions of Potsdam and Berlin. The fellow will receive a stipend of EUR 10,000 and reimbursement of travel expenses.

Candidates must be under 35 and hold a university degree in the humanities, in the social sciences, or in the natural sciences.

Polish-American Freedom Foundation - Lane Kirkland Scholarship Program

2011-2012 Lane Kirkland Scholarships Program
The Polish-American Freedom Foundation - Founder of the Lane Kirkland Scholarship Program, and the Polish – U.S. Fulbright Commission - Program Administrator, announce an open competition for candidates from Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, as well as Moldova, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan for the Lane Kirkland Scholarships in the 2011-12 academic year.

The Program is addressed to young leaders, holding MA university degrees, who are determined to be actively involved in the development of democracy, economy and civil society in their countries and the region. The program includes two semesters of study at Polish universities and 2-4 week professional internships in public and private institutions.

CANDIDATES:
The 2011/12 Kirkland scholarships are addressed to individuals who are able to apply the knowledge and skills obtained in Poland to economic, social and democratic changes in their home countries, and who represent the following professional groups:
  • civil servants, politicians, experts and employees of central and local government institutions 
  • entrepreneurs, managers
  • leaders of non-governmental organizations, animators in culture and civic activity
  • academic teachers, researchers 
  • journalists
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
  • Citizenship and permanent residence in one of the targeted countries
  • individuals with a permanent residence card in Poland are ineligible
  • Master’s degree 
  • up to 35 years of age (in special cases up to 40)
  • Polish language proficiency adequate to effectively attend lectures and seminars and prepare a diploma thesis, or, alternatively, English - for those candidates who select a specific study program with English as language of instruction (in such cases only basic Polish is required)
  • minimum 2 years of professional experience
PREFERENCES:
  • candidates actively working in their professional and social fields 
  • candidates who have significant achievements in one of the fields listed above
  • candidates who have not studied in Poland yet
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:

a) detailed personal questionnaire
b) proposed program of study in Poland explaining the purpose of participation in the Kirkland Program and including the future plans connected with its completion (not exceeding 4,000-6,000 characters)
2. Two letters of reference (in Polish, English or Russian), describing the achievements and qualifications of the candidate as well as the expectations connected with the candidate’s further development and work in her/his profession.
3. Copy of diploma (can be submitted electronically)

Application forms should be filled on-line. After the on-line application is completed, the system will generate a confirmation document. The candidate is required to print out the document, sign it and send it to the Fulbright Commission by regular mail with a photo of the candidate attached.

APPLICATIONS MUST BE COMPLETED IN POLISH OR ENGLISH (only those candidates who select a specific study program with English as language of instruction).

Grinell College Young Innovator for Social Justice Prize

The Grinnell College Young Innovator for Social Justice Prize is a new annual awards program to honor individuals under the age of 40 who have demonstrated leadership in their fields and who show creativity, commitment, and extraordinary accomplishment in effecting positive social change.

Up to three individuals will be honored annually. Each prize carries an award of $100,000, half to the winning individual and half to an organization committed to the winner’s area of social justice, for a total of up to $300,000 in prize awards each year.

The deadline for 2011 nominations is Feb. 1. The first prize recipients will be announced in May 2011.

Asian Pacific Leadership Program Fellowships

The Asia Pacific Leadership Program (APLP) is an innovative graduate level certificate program that combines the development of regional expertise with the enhancement of individual leadership skills. The APLP is a nine-month program (mid-August to mid-May) with a minimum five-month residency requirement. All APLP participants receive an APLP Entry Fellowship upon acceptance into the program.


Scholarship Worth
APLP Entry Fellowship is valued at approximately $15,000. In addition to the APLP Entry Fellowship granted to all participants, a sizeable number of East-West Center funding opportunities are available.

Course of Study:
Interdisciplinary analysis of emergent regional issues with experiential leadership learning.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria:
The fellowship program is open for Early- to mid-career professionals; currently enrolled graduate students; and recent university graduates from all countries.
* Bachelor's Degree - applicants must have a 4-year bachelor's degree or its equivalent from an accredited U.S. College or University or from a recognized institution of higher learning abroad. Equivalency is determined by the University of Hawaii. Generally, an equivalent could be a 3-year bachelor's degree plus a 1-year master's degree, or a 2-year bachelor's degree plus a 2-year master's degree.
* TOEFL is a requirement for all international students (unless automatically exempt). Your TOEFL test result can be no more than two years old. The International English language Testing System (IELTS) may be substituted for TOEFL. It is recommended that you take the TOEFL test as soon as possible.
* Professional work experience and achievement
* Leadership track record in professional, public, and/or personal realms
* International experience and aptitude, including overseas residence, language skills, intercultural and diversity exposure
* Volunteer and community service experience
* Asia Pacific engagement: evidence of interest in and knowledge of the region, as well as commitment to its future prosperity. This might include employment in the region, classes taken at University, languages spoken, memberships and fellowships, specific projects, field studies, and areas of research interest
* Experience of cohort learning, working collaboratively in small teams or in large groups.
