The World Justice Project was launched in 2006 by the American Bar Association (ABA) and 21 other global sponsoring organizations. Initially housed within the ABA, the WJP recently concluded the process of transition into an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Its office is located at 740 15th Street, NW, Washington, DC.
Position:
The World Justice Project’s Rule of Law Index is seeking a full-time paid intern for the Summer 2011 to work 35 - 40 hours per week. The position is expected to start on or around May 9, 2011.

Responsibilities:
• Provide crucial support to the Rule of Law Index staff in the overall development of the Index
• Conduct research for identifying potential practitioner and academic legal experts to participate in the Qualified Respondent Questionnaire (QRQ)
• Monitor and summarize media coverage of the Rule of Law Index, as well as rule of law issues in countries around the globe
• Assist Program Associate with linkages between the Rule of Law Index program and fundraising efforts, including helping to write/edit fundraising proposals
• Providing administrative support, including organizational work in Microsoft Excel and Word; internet research; editing and proofreading documents; and other office and logistical support duties

Intern Qualifications:
This internship is open to undergraduates and graduate students with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA, as well as recent graduates. The ideal candidate will have completed coursework in international affairs, social sciences, policy studies, regional studies, and/or pre-law. Applicants with international experience and foreign language skills are preferred. Successful applicants will be bright, highly motivated individuals with a strong academic track record and an enthusiastic interest in the rule of law. Candidates should also be committed to the WJP’s mission and principles (www.worldjusticeproject.org).

The successful candidate will have a strong research background and ability to manage large databases, excellent oral and written communication skills, sound analytical skills, strong attention to detail, ability to communicate in a professional manner with senior level professionals both in writing and over the phone, and strong skills in Microsoft Word and Excel. In addition, the candidate will require the ability to work independently as well as in group settings, manage his or her own workload, and be able to prioritize multiple tasks and work under deadline pressure.
