IKV Pax Christi is a Dutch peace organization that works for peace and
justice in the world. We support people in conflict areas to work towards
peaceful and democratic societies. We work on global disarmament and on the
protection of civilians specifically within fragile and repressive states. We do
research and advocate – in the Netherlands, in Europe and in the world for

Vacancy
IKV Pax Christi is looking for an Advocacy Officer UN
The advocacy officer is responsible for the development and execution of
advocacy at UN Headquarters and will be stationed at the office of the World
Federalist Movement-Institute for Global Policy in New York. The Advocacy
Officer delivers his/her results to the Global Advocacy Manager based in the
Netherlands.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain a strategic overview of our advocacy priorities: Sudan, Nuclear Disarmament and Protection of Civilians at the UN and support their implementation.
- Report monthly on engagement with, and networking around the UNSC, UN Disarmament Commission, DPKO, UNSC 1540 Committee, and Committee of 34, among others, on the priority topics. Deliver mapping reports of the political arena, develop policy positions and produce briefings and other advocacy materials, in close collaboration with IKV Pax Christi program leaders; specifically on our priority topics.
- Represent IKV Pax Christi, in relevant meetings and events in close coordination with relevant program leaders.
- Deliver a weekly report on your advocacy activities in order to ensure that advocacy is congruent, complementary to, and, where appropriate, linked to IKV Pax Christi national, regional and international efforts and those of our partners, especially GPPAC.
- Maintain and expand our network with the nuclear disarmament and Sudan communities including donors, NGOs, government officials, regional and international organizations, academics, and journalists.
Requirements
- Masters Degree or equivalent experience in Political Science, International Relations, International Law or a related field.
- 3-5 years experience working for an NGO or UN Agency, preferably in the field of peace building and security, ideally on one of IPC’s priority topics.
- Demonstrable experience in high level advocacy.
- Proven ability to analyze complex issues, to identify advocacy opportunities and define strategies to achieve policy change.
- Excellent networking, interpersonal and communication skills, including a proven ability to write for and speak in front of a wide and diverse range of audiences.
- Proven organizational and time-management skills, with an ability to prioritize effectively.
- Ability to work independently, while pro-actively seeking input from and including IPC program staff.
- Willingness to travel.
Terms and Opportunities
- We offer a paid full-time consultancy contract for a year with three-month probationary period;
- Opportunity to work in an enthusiastic, small and young international team, part of a large international secretariat and a global network;
- Competitive consultant compensation; compensation commensurate with experience;
- Contractor shall be stationed at WFM in New York and delivers his results to IKV Pax Christi.
