This is a unique opportunity for interns and volunteers to be able to expand skills and experience while making a contribution to developing innovative ways to defend migrants’ rights.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Interns and volunteers will have responsibilities for one or more of the following tasks (to be agreed in discussion with supervisor):
- Assist in translations of materials between English, Spanish, French and possibly Portuguese
- Assist in communication with JWB Migrants member organizations
- Assist in organizing events and activities
- Policy, media and/or legal research, analysis and writing
- Drafting press releases, analysis, advocacy materials, informational materials, human rights reports, fundraising materials, institutional reports, legal research, and other materials
- Developing content for website, and web updating
- Administrative tasks (mailings, database updating, other)
- Other
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Fluency and writing skills in one of the following languages required: English, French or Spanish
- In addition, strong preference for the ability to read, communicate in, and write understandably in at least one additional language, out of the following list of languages: English, French, or Spanish
- Commitment to social justice and migrants’ rights; interest in migrants’ rights, human rights, or related field
- Capacity in one or more tasks listed above, or, capacity to learn relevant skills
- Basic office skills and computer literacy and the ability to use Word, email, and world wide web required.
PREFERRED SKILLS
- Knowledge or interest in African and European migration policy, and the situation on migrants’ rights
- Knowledge or interest in African, European and international legal systems and legal procedure, human rights protection systems,
- Ability to conduct research and analysis
- Experience in event planning and coordination
- Experience with social justice movements, including civil society networks
- Experience in diverse settings, with partners from many countries, cultures, and sectors
- Knowledge or experience in web updating (using Dreamweaver) preferred (some training can be provided)
- Experience in graphic design and familiarity with Photoshop, Excel, InDesign, Flash or other graphic design programs, is preferred but not required (some training provided).
- Law students welcome (supervision by attorney avaiable)

MINIMUM COMMITMENT
Interns: Minimum 8 - 40 hours a week for 12 weeks.
Volunteers: Flexible commitment
